This demand response initiative allows homeowners with battery storage systems to earn Massachusetts solar incentives by providing energy to the grid during peak demand periods. While there’s no upfront incentive for solar panels alone, participants can receive financial rewards for battery storage contributions
Battery systems that charge during off-peak hours may qualify for CPECs—similar to SRECs—which are sold to electricity providers. These certificates currently offer a value of $135 per kW-year, with some customers earning up to $900 per year.
Through ISO-NE, solar owners with battery systems can participate in passive demand response by reducing grid load during seasonal peaks (winter, spring, and fall). Although summer participation is restricted by the ConnectedSolutions program, customers may still earn an estimated $50 per year during other periods.
Does Massachusetts offer net metering? Yes, it does, allowing homeowners to save money on their electricity bills for excess electricity generated by their solar panels and fed back into the grid. These solar power credits can offset electricity costs when the system isn’t producing enough power, helping homeowners leverage the value of their solar-generated electricity.
